Construct - Documentation

Thank you for purchasing Construct – A Divi Child Theme by Sam Coombs Web Design.

This is your step by step guide for importing, setup and using the additional features that Construct adds to your WordPress website.

Before importing, I always recommend making a backup just to be safe and importing Construct on a clean WordPress install.

1. Import Divi

Once you have purchased Divi from Elegant Themes, download it and make sure you have the theme as a .zip file.

Then log in to your WordPress website and click on Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme.

Click choose file and select your Divi.zip or drag this file on to the choose file button.

2. Import Construct

Once you have purchased Construct, download it and make sure you have the theme as a .zip file. The file will be called construct.zip

Then log in to your WordPress website and click on Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme.

Click choose file and select your construct.zip or drag this file on to the choose file button.

Click ‘Activate’.

3. Install Demo Content

Go over to the navigation menu on the right and click on Construct – Theme Import.

Tick which settings you want to import. I recommend all of them as you may run in to issues otherwise. Scroll to the bottom and click Import Demo Content.

The demo images are placeholders due to licensing. If you’re looking for some fantastic stock photos then Unsplash and Pexels are fantastic resources.

This will also include the WP-PageNavi plugin.

4. Remove Installer

Once the theme has been imported – click the button that says “Remove Demo Content & Import Functions”.

This will remove the Construct – Theme Import from the sidebar.

Customising Your Theme

Finding Construct’s Settings

To utilise Construct’s additional features, navigate to Divi > Theme Options > Construct.

Change Theme Colours

Construct allows you to easily change the themes base colours.

Select your new colours and don’t forget to click the “Save Changes” button.

Construct Theme Options

Construct allows you to change some additional website settings.

Each setting has a description if you hover over the question mark.

Desktop Menu Dropdown Arrows – These are purely aesthetic and only affect the desktop header navigation.

Post Thumbnail & Gallery Resize – These prevent blurry images on post thumbnails and gallery thumbnail images. By default these are set to enabled as they are better for SEO and page load speeds.

Preload Screen – This is the white screen with “loading” written on it when you navigate between pages. I recommend leaving this enabled for smooth user experience.

Social Icon Editor

The footer includes social icons that you can customise with this editor.

Please see images for examples:

There we go! All the content is now imported and you can edit as much as you like.

I hope you enjoy using the theme and it’s additional features.

Thank you again for purchasing Construct.
